Solar City, a company that will lease you solar panels for your roof and you can make monthly payments. They offer free repair of panels and monitoring. For around $70 a month you’ll get a 2.4 kilowatt system (for a smaller home). The upfront costs right now depending on where you live is free until July 31. After that, upfront costs should be between $1,000 to $3,000. As Rive, the CEO of Solarcity says, ” We can essentially make it so everybody can now afford clean power.” They guarantee performance and you have the option of continuing to lease or purchase later. One catch-you have to have a credit rating (FICO) of 720 or greater to take advantage of this and they are not servicing all metros.

This is a great idea - I wonder that instead of paying a bank interest, whether that money could go back into an international network of panels that's owned by the participants. there's an open source project here studying this:
