When I lived in Indianapolis they had "No zone action days" or "Ozone action days". We were told to refrain from mowing the lawn, filling up the car, starting up the grill, until after 7:00 p.m. The advisements were on hot humid days in July and August. Several years later, I still live in Indiana but out side of a large city and I no longer hear about the precautions. This struck me the other day and I started doing some research. I found out that the precautions were actually a warninig about "ground ozone". Apparently this affects people with asthma and other respiratory deficits negatively. Anyway, I found a good website with details if anyone is interested it is: www.epa.gov/ard-r5/naaqs/o3info.htm. Apparently this is a midwest area phenomenon. I find it interesting that it is not well known in the rural areas of the midwest. On the website there is a map of the areas that is affected by this ground ozone. I feel that there is a terrible lack of communication with this issue, anyone else???
