The House of Representatives just passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act HR2454 (ACES). This historic bill promises to transition the United States to clean energy, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, and revitalize American industry. Now ACES includes significant opportunity for communities that too often languish at the margins of American prosperity. Through ACES, low-income communities will be able to access quality clean energy jobs, and the training required to prepare them for those jobs. The vote was close. Know that all of your efforts -- whether a signed petition, a donation, or a call -- made a difference in the outcome. Together, we are truly showing the power of government by the people and for the people.Today, we have something to celebrate. For the first time in decades, we have taken bold action to help solve the climate crisis. Congratulations to the members of the House who voted yes! But, the really tough work has just begun. The bill will face tough opposition from Dirty Coal and Big Oil in the Senate and we will all need to work just as hard in the coming months to pass a clean energy bill. |

Late last week, all eyes were on Washington, D.C. as the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACESA) passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Thanks to the leadership of Chairmen Henry Waxman and Ed Markey, this historic climate and energy bill could transition America to a clean energy economy. But the legislation needs to be strengthened by the full House and Senate to ensure that America's workers and communities fully benefit from it. To strengthen the bill, our leaders in Washington, D.C. should follow the lead of the other Washington. Just this month, Governor Chris Gregoire of Washington state signed a landmark green jobs bill into law (Senate Bill 5649). Green For All is proud to have helped shape this legislation. We worked with community partners and state legislators to ensure that the bill includes job quality standards and opportunities for low-income people and local workers. Let's tell our leaders in Congress to use the Washington state legislation as a model - and strengthen the opportunities for low-income Americans in the climate and energy bill. |

The Amazon rainforest is one of the the diverse ecosystems on Earth. But destroying the rainforest for cattle products does more than destroy the ecosystem — it’s also a major source of global warming pollution. Deforestation causes 20% of the world’s global warming emissions. That’s more climate pollution than all of the world’s cars, trucks, trains, planes, and ships combined. The Brazilian cattle industry is responsible for 80% of deforestation in the Amazon, making it the largest single driver of deforestation in the world — and therefore the largest single driver of greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation in the world. Brazil’s cattle industry is producing leather that could end up in popular shoe brands like Nike, Adidas, Reebok, and Timberland. |
